Step 3 - Feedback after presentation

- focus more on the places rather than on the people
- ligting in important and vital because it helps create a certain atmosphere in the images which is exactly what I am looking to do
- a tripod needs to be used
- focus on the interior and exterior of buildings
- empty spaces such as factories, schools, kindergardens, shops, churches, houses, bakery.
- the idea of telling a story of an empty town through the empty spaces in it
- gaining access to the archives of the town would be indicated even if they might not be used in the production of the final images

Step 1 - Presenting the Idea

Project presentation on 6th May 2014:

Introduction
From 1965 to 1989, Romania was home to one of the most repressive totalitarian regimes in history under Nicolae Ceausescu. During that time, Romania underwent a period of intense industrialization and urbanization under a program known as "systematization“
OcnaMures is slowly yet surely fading away. Back in the 60’s, the town was an important salt extraction point. It had a chlorosodic production plant, a salt extraction plant and a spa. At the moment, the entire town is in an advanced state of decay.

Context
Aim of project: Observing the way in which mono-industrial communities cope with the loss of their central activity, the depression that these places experience. Points of focus shall be the people and the places.
The collapse of the Communist regime left local communities to their own devices and the salt extracting town is now fighting unemployment and poverty.
It is important to me because this is the place where I was born. I fear that in a few years, it might disappear completely.

Logistics

Access: Will be gained with help from people who used to work in the factories. I intend to spend a month there
Budget: Approximately 400 pounds should be needed to cover all expenses (transport, daily expenses, printing)
Transport: I shall get to the place by car.
Final outcome: Book;

Audience: Anyone interested in finding out about post-industrial areas
Time away: from June 2014 to August 2014
Post production: 1 month (August2014) shall be allowed for editing and printing.
